North Bethesda is one of the most popular places to live located in Montgomery County just 4 miles from the Washington D.C. border. Living in North Bethesda offers residents an urban feel with proximity to many restaurants, coffee shops, and parks.

1- Old Farm

Old Farm is a highly sought after suburban neighborhood (based on population density) located in Rockville, Maryland. Kettler Brothers built the houses in Old Farm — mostly Colonials with one-car garages — between 1963 and 1966. Homes have 4-5 bedrooms and 2-3 bathrooms with a range of 2100-3300 sq ft (not including basements). The prices range from $700,000 up to $1,160,000 depending on size and renovations. The schools for Old Farm are Farmland Elementary, Tilden Middle and Walter Johnson High School. *Always confirm with MCPS before buying*. 

The closest shopping/grocery is Park Potomac, Wildwood, or Pike & Rose. Old Farm has it’s own swim & paddle club which is owned by its members. The pool offers a host of summer activities that include swim and dive teams, family fun nights, potluck dinners, major holiday picnics, and more. The recreation area includes a basketball court, shuffleboard court, toddler play area with sandbox, and very popular sand volleyball court. They also offer a fenced-in baby pool and a roped-off, shallow section of the main pool for infants and new swimmers. There is also the opportunity to play paddle tennis. They have the only area paddle tennis facility not associated with a country club. This sport, growing in popularity, is played in the fall and winter months and is a great way to stay fit during the cooler months. They also offer water aerobics, masters swimming, and (new this year) yoga classes.

2- Luxmanor

Luxmanor is a very sought after, expensive neighborhood that has a deep history stemming back to 1934. Today, you can find older homes mixed with new construction of all different styles. The lot sizes are typically 1/3 of an acre and larger with beautiful treed lots. Buyers are drawn to Luxmanor for many reasons including location, accessibility, schools and community. Some homes have an HOA than can range from $3-$170/month while others don’t so make sure to check when you’re thinking of buying a house in luxmanor. Homes generally have 4-7 bedrooms and 3-6 bathrooms. Square footage ranges from 2100 up to 6400 sq ft for the new builds. Prices in Luxmanor range from 1 million up to 3 million for new construction. Luxmanor is minutes to numerous shopping, dining and entertainment venues including: Pike & Rose, Wildwood Shopping Center, Cabin John Shopping Center, Montgomery Mall, and Strathmore Music Center. The neighborhood offers an abundance of pools, parks, and walking trails. Luxmanor Local Park was acquired by M-NCPPC in 1961 and serves the Luxmanor neighborhood in North Bethesda. They have a softball field, baseball field and picnic space.  Luxmanor is perfect for commuters, just minutes to Grosvenor Metro, I-495, I-270, and 30 minutes to Dulles or National airports.

3- Heritage Walk/Windermere

Windermere is a community in North Bethesda that features tree lined streets with British styled colonial homes sitting on landscaped and green lawns at an aesthetically pleasing distance from the street. The community takes its name from a lake and town by the same name in northwestern England. Windermere is a carefully planned single family subdivision made up of three sections located near Tuckerman Lane and Old Georgetown Road. The three sections comprise about 200 single family homes sitting on 1/4 to 1/3 acre sized lots. Development took place between 1970 and 2000. Windermere/Heritage Walk has an HOA that ranges from $785-$1200/yr. Bedrooms range from 4-6 and bathrooms from 2-4. Square footage ranges from 2400-4200 depending on size and model. Prices range from $850.000-$1,310,000. Present day schools are Luxmanor Elementary, Tilden Middle and Walter Johnson High School. *Always confirm with MCPS before buying*. 

Windermere/Heritage Walk has the use of 2 additional public pools near by for its residents to join, Tilden Woods and The Montgomery County Aquatic Center. The Center provides a variety of recreational water activities for all ages which include: an 8-lane L-shaped main pool, divided into two 25-meter swim areas, a warm water leisure pool, two separate hydrotherapy pools, a 10-meter diving platform and interior water slide, an exercise room, snack bar, locker and shower facilities, saunas, lighted outdoor jogging trail and enclosed racquetball courts. 

4-Timberlawn

Timberlawn is a highly sought after community of 126 homes, entering into its fourth decade of existence. Timberlawn’s beauty, neighborly appeal and location continue to make it a sought after community in North Bethesda. Although we focus on single family homes in this blog, Timerlawn does have a large townhome community worth mentioning. The community also offers access to Pembroke Pool featuring 2 pools, 4 tennis courts and a tot lot.  Beauty, good schools, and excellent amenities make Timberlawn perfect for anyone! Some homes in Timberlawn have an HOA that can range from $155-$825/yr. Bedrooms range from 4-6, bathrooms 3-5. Square footage ranges from 2200 to 3800 of living space. Prices range from $775,000 up to $1,375,000. Present day schools are Luxmanor Elementary or Garrett Park Elementary, North Bethesda Middle or Tilden Middle and Walter Johnson High School. *Always confirm with MCPS before buying*. 

Timberlawn is conveniently located within one mile of 270, 495,  with easy access to biking/walking paths, restaurants, two metro stations (White Flint  & Grosvenor~Strathmore), Whole Foods, Starbucks, LA Fitness Signature Club, Dry Cleaning, Pike & Rose, Montgomery County Shriver Aquatic Center, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment, and the Bethesda Trolley Trail.

5- Tilden Woods

Tilden Woods is adjacent to the Old Farm neighborhood in Rockville – North Bethesda. It is a very sought after neighborhood in Montgomery County nestled between Montrose Rd and Montrose Parkway, & Old Georgetown Road and Route 270.  It’s an older, established neighborhood within a few minutes of 495, I-270, and Rockville Pike.The houses in Tilden Woods are mostly ramblers, split-levels, bi-levels and some Colonial styles, built between 1962 and 1966 by Community Builders. Homes generally have 4-5 bedrooms and 2-4 bathrooms. Sq footage is tricky because the assessor does NOT count anything below the kitchen so split levels and bi-levels can seem deceivingly small if you just look at the public sq ft. That being said, living space sq footage ranges from 1700-3000 unless you are buying a new build which will be much bigger. Prices range from $700,000 up to $2mill for a new build. If it’s a resale, generally the sales price will stay under 1 million. Present day schools are either Luxmanor or Farmland elementary, Tilden Middle and Walter Johnson High School. *Always confirm with MCPS before buying*. 

Tilden Woods Park, acquired by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in 1961, is seven acres at 6800 Tilden Lane, with two lighted tennis courts, a softball field, a basketball court and a picnic area. There also are two private swim clubs in the area: Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club and Tilden Woods Pool. For more than 50 years, Tilden Woods Pool has established itself as the summertime heart of the community. The pool comes alive with activities for the entire family, both day and night. Swim in a heated pool, enjoy cookouts, raft nights, or relax in the sun or shade. Tilden Woods also has a swim team. The Dolphins keep the kids physically fit as they show their spirit with old-fashioned neighborhood teamwork.
