Today were going to go through my top 5 simple ways to create a more elegant vibe which, if you’re thinking of selling your home will increase its appeal to future buyers, or if you are staying put but want a little house lift, it will give you what you need just in time for the holidays.
Let’s face it, if we know that we are having company over, we quickly clean the house- throw clutter in closets, pick up clothes off the floor and dump them in the laundry baskets and put the dishes in the dishwasher that your kids or your partner insists on leaving in the sink. Because of course, its never us. Wink wink.
And even after you do all of that- don’t you ever look around and think that something is missing? It still doesn’t look as good as when you visit open houses or watch HGTV. I can tell you from personal experience, in 20 years of being a realtor I’ve fixed up my clients houses to look so nice that when I was done, they decided not to sell but instead to stay. Not what I wanted to hear! True story and this has happened more than once!
Lets dive right in
So my first trick up my sleeve is I buy some beautiful trays. You can find them at Homegoods or online at Amazon- they don’t have to be expensive but they will really elevate your home. I use trays to place candles on or books and a candle or just cute things I find – remember the rule of 3s. – three things in a display is the perfect amount. I have these trays all over my house. Side tables, my living room coffee table – it’s a super luxurious look that works every time.

Up next- Your bookshelves. Bookshelves are usually a big staple in a home but when they are filled with just books, they can look boring. So, instead, take off a third or half of your books and mix up the shelf with some photos, candles and maybe a colorful vase if you want a pop of color. Put some of the books on their side and others standing up. Try to keep the standing books the same size and remember the rule of 3s! Once you complete this project, it will look good forever!
So my next thing has to do with your entrance to your house. I love a good entrance. From the outside, try buying an elegant front door mat. This doesn’t have to be expensive but it’s the first thing you see when you come and go and it will elevate your style from the get go. And if you have room on either side of your front door, get some pretty, large ceramic pots or large planters and add some fresh plants or flowers. This can seriously change the whole vibe of your house and give it an ultra lux look.
Once you enter your house, you should also have a nice matt for right inside your entry. Luxury inspired and the vibe is elegant immediately. It sounds like such a minor thing but it’s the first impression and the impact is worth it. Another tip I have for the entry way is to buy a diffuser with a lovely scent and put it in a glass vase. It looks pretty and if the scent is subtle (I love DUE by alora) it gives a opulent feel to the home.
And finally, to uplift your living room, family room and bedrooms, get some super soft throws and some decorative pillows. You may already have the pillows in your home to rearrange or you can find some nice pillows at home goods or amazon. Go for the softer material for a more lux feel. This will give the space a refresh and the throws will come in use. They not only look great but you can use them on cooler days and feel cozy in your own home.
