Whats up everyone
When you think of luxury homes, you think of big money. Mansions with a pool, tennis court or a spectacular view. The homes you see on million dollar listing or selling sunset.
And maybe you live in one right now? Or maybe you dream of luxury but just can’t afford it right now.
Well, in this video we’re going to go through some luxury home trends that won’t break the bank and may make your home feel even more lush and elegant.
So, let’s dive right in
So the first few I’m going to talk about have to do with your kitchen. I mean, let’s face it, the kitchen is the money shot of the house. At least it is in real estate. So I’ve got 5 inexpensive ways to make your kitchen more luxurious that you can do pretty easily.
1- Add Under Cabinet Lighting- puck lights, strip lights, and bar lights. Battery operated or hardwired. These can be as cheap as $13 and make a huge difference. When I redid my kitchen, it was one of the last things I added. I bought mine at Home Depot and had an electrician install them to be hard wired but you can easily do it yourself with one of the other options. I found a link with all different price points for different under cabinet lighting so I will post it in the description. To be clear, I am not affiliated with any of the links I’m providing. I just want to make it easy if you want to start to implement any of the things I’m talking about. But please feel free to use any links/sites you want.
2- Fancy Backsplash – I always find this the most fun out of all of the kitchen choices when I’m helping my clients fix up their homes to put on the market. It is not expensive but can make a real difference in the look of your kitchen and a place where your personality shines through. For a more traditional/neutral look, Subway tiles are a classic choice that will stand the test of time. Depending on the color of your cabinets and countertops, you can pick a bold color or a sleek white. And don’t forget the grout if you are doing it yourself. For white tiles, use white grout. For darker tiles, you can contrast with white grout or get a grey grout. Other backsplash choices are glass, mosaic, stone, ceramic & porcelain. If you’re doing it yourself, head over to a big box store like Floor & Decor or Home Depot and ask their design section for some ideas. Don’t forget the grout!
3- Hardware Upgrade
From the kitchen cupboards to dresser drawers to bathroom cabinets and doors, swapping out old hardware for something more modern can quickly upgrade your space. You can find beautiful pulls, knobs, and handles at an affordable price at many home good stores or online marketplaces. Some of the trends I’m seeing now in luxury homes are bigger, brass pulls (or handles), as well as matte black. I’ve also seen a mix of the two which can work well together. If you want a more traditional look, you can always use brushed nickel but still upgrade the look by using different shapes of the hardware. I’ve seen a mix of bar pulls, which are long and slender, mixed with round or square knobs. Changing the hardware can be done by a handyman or yourself if you are handy. You can find them online or at Home Depot.
4- Faucet Upgrade
So now you have super cool under cabinet lighting, a fancy backsplash, elegant stunning hardware- but what’s the biggest item that stands out in a kitchen? Your faucet! Upgrading a faucet (whether it’s in the kitchen or bathrooms) can make a huge difference. A few years ago, the big industrial faucet was in style. Personally, in the luxury homes I’m seeing now, it’s more of a sleek faucet than the oversized industrial look. I’m seeing gold and black in most of the homes but you can always use nickel or chrome if that’s more your style. One thing I would caution you about is the touchless faucets are cool in theory but I’ve seen them break down a lot so just be aware.. I’ve added a link of this cool site I found with tons of pics of different faucets to give you some ideas. Remember, this doesn’t have to be super expensive to look luxurious. It’s all about making it work for you.
5- Paint Cabinets
Replacing kitchen cabinets can be really expensive so if you want a kitchen facelift but dont have the budget to replace your cabinets, and they’re in good shape, consider painting them. If you go this route, I would highly recommend hiring a painter who has painted cabinets before because it can be tricky. IF done correctly, they can look really great. Repainting your kitchen and bathroom cabinets is an excellent way to improve the look of your home on a budget.
Ok, let’s get out of the kitchen, and see what other things we can do to make your home more luxurious.
6- Decorative mirrors – Mirrors can create the illusion of more space by reflecting light and adding depth to a room. So if you are going to have a mirror, try and find a decorative one that gives the room an upgrade. I’ve seen oversized mirrors that can either hang on a wall or lean against it. Or my favorite, big, round mirrors. You can pic a black frame for a sleeker look or a gold frame (my favorite) for a more opulent look.
7- Paint Doors – Instead of the standard, basic white, paint your doors a different color. Some of the trends I’ve seen are a darker gray. I saw this in a house the other day and asked the paint color. She said it was Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron. It looked really cool! I may try it at my house.
8- Replace store bottles with glass soap dispensers- This is an easy, inexpensive thing you can do today! Buy some super cute glass soap dispensers- just go on amazon and take a look and then fill them with hands soap and dish soap for the kitchen as well as hand soap for all of the bathrooms. You will be surprised by how different the rooms feel with the glass jars instead of a mix match of store bottles.
9- Flowers & plants & candles Oh my! Don’t forget about diffusers!
In a luxurious home, fresh flowers can be perfect accent details, decorating your side tables, coffee tables and countertops. I also love big hurricane candles on tables, creating an atmosphere of sophistication and comfort. And fragrance is super important to me. I always have a diffuser in a pretty glass jar by the front door with my favorite scent in it. I love Due by alora and I get so many compliments on it!
10- Cold plunge, Fire pit (solo stove)- I wanted to add a couple of exterior luxury items so here are my favorite and my brother’s favorite. I love my solo stove. It’s a portable fire pit that works on my deck or out front. Gives great heat, is super easy to use and we absolutely love it. We have the bigger size and use it all of the time! https://www.solostove.com/en-us
As for my brother, well, he’s into the cold plunge so he recently bought a portable cold plunge by edge theory. It sits right on his deck and he uses it all of the time and loves it! I’ll add the link for it but you could probably find a more inexpensive brand. In any event, I will not be using it anytime soon. I’ll stick to my fire pit! https://www.edgetheorylabs.com/products/the-edge-tub-elite
